Demand LA Mayor Karen Bass Reform Biased Response to Violence at Synagogue Real Estate Event
Mayor Bass recently released a biased statement at a press conference, which addressed the violence outside the Adas Torah synagogue and included a known Islamophobe.
On June 24, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass spoke at a press conference to address the violence that broke out over the weekend when pro-Israel counter-protesters confronted pro-Palestinian demonstrators who were gathered outside the Adas Torah synagogue in LA to protest a real estate event of illegally occupied Palestinian land.
Pro-Israel agitators reportedly attacked pro-Palestinian protesters, unrelated journalists, and bystanders, including throwing eggs at them, spraying them with mace, and physically assaulting them. Several of the attackers allegedly have been identified as the same pro-Israel individuals who attacked peaceful student protesters at UCLA’s Gaza Solidarity Camp in April.
During the press conference, Mayor Bass condemned the pro-Palestinian protesters and failed to mention the violence perpetrated against them or reports that law enforcement on the scene did little to intervene and stop the attacks.
Mayor Bass' statement wrongly misrepresented the objectives of the pro-Palestine protest and did not acknowledge the unlawful sale of stolen Palestinian land in the occupied West Bank that was allegedly being promoted at the events.
The press conference also included InfoWars host Adam King, who has allegedly promoted the dehumanization and elimination of Muslims and made racist statements on his public X (formerly Twitter) account.
Elected officials and the mainstream media have politicized this incident as religious discrimination as opposed to a human rights issue and vilified protesters speaking up for Palestinian human rights. Mayor Bass must act to protect the rights and safety of all her constituents.
TAKE ACTION
Urge Mayor Bass to 1). Reform her public statement to acknowledge the critical context behind the pro-Palestinian protests, 2). Meet with leaders from the Jewish, Muslim, Palestinian, and Arab American communities who publicly support Palestinian human rights, and 3). Call for a full investigation from the LAPD into the violent attacks perpetrated by pro-Israel individuals against pro-Palestinian protesters.
