Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, California prisons and local jails are continuing to act as the main pipeline filling immigration detention centers by turning community members who are eligible to be released over to Trump’s deportation force. This alarming practice must stop because transferring people to ICE, rather than releasing them to their families and communities, could amount to a death sentence for people funneled into immigration detention during this pandemic. Recently, people who've completed their time in state prison have been taken by ICE out of state, thousands of miles from their loved ones. ICE systematically deprives tens of thousands of immigrants and refugees of liberty, many in for-profit facilities in California, and has a shocking record of medical neglect.
Governor Gavin Newsom recently intervened and prevented the ICE transfer of Chanthon Bun, who was going to be transferred over to ICE after serving his time at San Quentin State Prison. The Governor has the power to intervene and stop the transfer of ALL people to ICE.
Please help us by completing the action below and emailing Governor Newsom to stop all prison to ICE transfers.
